    Welcome to the Department of Employability, Enterprise, Education and Experience, otherwise known as UnderGround.  We are the part of the university that looks after careers, 

    travel, volunteering, enterprise, professional development and employability.  We have a very hands on approach to everything that we do and like to get students involved with activities throughout the year.

    Tasters, Workshops & Seminars

    During term-time the UnderGround team, and carefully selected partners, offer tasters, workshops and seminars. The majority take place on a Wednesday and are known as Wednesday Words of Wisdom (WOW). You can book your space on these activities via The Junction, by following this link and logging in.

    Learn ways to do new things in new ways with different people and gain valuable work experience. This STOP is all about experiential learning through placement, internships, paid work and volunteering.

  • Study Abroad & Camp America

    From Camp America to studying abroad there are lots of options available for those of you who like to travel.  Camp America is a company that run cultural exchanges programs and provide the opportunities to spend your summer living and working at a traditional summer camp in America. Operating since '69, they are the most established summer camp provider and each year thousands of student spend a summer at camps all over the USA.

    Camps usually last for 9 weeks (often with additional week of orientation) and start between May and June. Following your placement you have up to 30 days to get out, hit the road and explore the amazing country that is the USA.

    Why should I do Camp America?
    Camp America is all about the experience, and amazing summer that you're guaranteed not to get anywhere else. As well as working with staff from all over the world and amazing new life long friendships, you're going to get to have experiences that you will probably get anywhere else... and it's all part of your job!

    As well as all the fun and the excitement camp has to offer you'll also be developing other skills that will greatly impact your university life and career prospects. Working as a summer camp with Camp America will stand out massively on your CV to any employers. You will be working with an international environment and will develop skills such as communication, team work, responsibility, initiative, leadership, dedication and commitment, to name just a few. These skills and experiences are ones that will last a lifetime!

    Partnership Agreement
    University of St Mark & St John work in collaboration with providing Marjon students the opportunity to fast track the recruitment process. Camp America Reps run in-house recruitment days on campus, for all students to engage with. The dates vary throughout the academic year, so keep posted via our UndergroundatMarjon Facebook page for the next event. Marjon has also offered this year, 15 paid bursaries for 15 lucky students, for more information of how you could benefit from a bursary please contact Faye Hatherley-Edwin on fhatherley@marjon.ac.uk

    Camp America can also be used as your placement module (for non professional programmes). For Sport and Health Science placements the placement must take place in the summer prior to the placement module, as agreed by the module leader.
